Mountain Pursuits and Island Lake Lodge are pleased to present specially designed day hikes for descerning private clients. The following is just a small sampling of some of the exceptional hikes Fernie and the East Kootneys has to offer.
Heiko's Trail
Fernie's longest and most beautiful alpine hike. Hike past waterfalls and a cave into alpine meadows and over high alpine passes. Your efforts for the big day will be rewarded as this hike ends at the Bear Lodge deck at Island Lake Lodge for well deserved drink. Don't miss it! (4x4 shuttle required)
Moderate difficulty, long duration
The Spineback Trail
Leave from Island Lake Lodge on an adventure to the alpine environs of the Lizard Range! Fossils galore, not to mention flowers, sink holes, and amazing viewpoints.

Mt Proctor
A big full day loop hike past a waterfall up into the alpine to the summit with awesome close up views of the Three Sisters. Forests, scree, ridgewalking, views, a summit...this hike has it all!

Three Bears
Get off the beaten path and circumnavigate the landmark alpine features of the Island Lake Lodge property and experience the Hidden Valley. You can expect hiking and boot skiing on snow when conditions are favorable for this gem of a hike!

Three Sisters
Fernie's highest and most famous local peak. Great 360 degree views, a super chance to see mountain goats as well as other wildlife makes this a worthwhile adventure. Lush forest and a cave at the begining of this hike make it exciting from begining to end! (4x4 vehicle required)

The Rail Trail and Old Growth Trail
Experience the history of the Cedar valley. Walk the forest along an old narrow guage rail bed and learn about the town of Fernie's beginings. Continue up to the Old Growth Trail and visit a climax cedar forest with surprises and viewpoints along the way. Great trails for hot days as it is cool under the canopy. Finish at Island Lake Lodge for lunch or refreshments!
